How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins and they have different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset how to open audi car key PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. 3. Fuel Pump
